High School Education and Learning

FEN Anatolian High School operates as a private high school (Anatolian High School) providing education in a foreign language.

English education at our high school is conducted based on the SEPT (Studying English through Projects and Tests) program. Language levels are established according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). We measure our students’ English proficiency through international exams such as FCE, IELTS, and TOEFL, appropriate to their grade levels, and incorporate targeted preparation for these exams into our English lessons. One of our key goals is for our students to graduate at an advanced level in English and at an intermediate level in their second foreign language, enabling them to begin their university studies without the need for preparatory classes. Therefore, IELTS preparation is emphasized in the 10th grade, while intensive TOEFL IBT preparation programs are applied in the 11th and 12th grades. International projects such as AFS, MUN, ISTA, and School Partnership play a vital role in our foreign language education. Through these projects, our students have the opportunity to travel abroad, experience different cultures, make friends from around the world, and better understand the importance of language learning.

University preparation is a priority in our curriculum. Within the scope of our university preparation program, students’ progress is closely monitored by academic coaches, YKS boards, the Measurement & Evaluation Unit, and the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Service. Academic competence is also measured through practice YKS exams conducted within the school. Support courses and one-on-one sessions are organized to address learning gaps.

To make the learning process more effective, methods and techniques such as research, project-based and technology-supported applications, and laboratory and workshop activities are used.

Various club activities are organized in line with students’ interests and abilities.

The “Career Guidance and Career Development” program is implemented through career introductions, university visits, aptitude tests, and other activities. Students wishing to study abroad are provided with information about overseas education opportunities and scholarships.

Numerous cultural and scientific events are organized to promote intercultural interaction and enhance scientific thinking skills.

By participating in national and international projects organized by NGOs both domestically and abroad, students gain a “sense of social responsibility.”

Our school also carries out many international environmental projects, such as Caretakers of the Environment and Young Reporters for the Environment. In these projects, our students develop solutions to environmental problems based on the environmental awareness they have acquired at school, implement these solutions, and fulfill their responsibilities to future generations.

The Turkish Language and Literature Curriculum (Grades 9–12) aims, through literary texts, to help students recognize the fundamental qualities of Turkish literature and culture, its prominent artists and works; to explore the subtleties of the Turkish language; and to develop comprehension, expression, critical thinking skills, and aesthetic appreciation.

Students will:

  • Understand the nature and function of literature and its significance for individuals and society

  • Learn about Turkish culture and the subtleties of the Turkish language through literary texts, using Turkish with care and awareness

  • Recognize the changes and developments in Turkish literature over time through distinguished examples

The Social Sciences Program is an educational framework designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to adapt to social life and contribute solutions to social issues.

In the department, which includes history, geography, philosophy, and religious culture and ethics courses, the core approach focuses on developing students’ creativity. The primary aim is to help students get to know their environment and the world, while fostering historical, environmental, natural, and cultural awareness.

Rather than simply transmitting information, our priority is to create active learning environments where students can access information themselves—encouraging them to prepare presentations, dramatizations, and scenarios—thus guiding them in discovering their talents.

In line with these goals:

  • In Philosophy, students study the ideas of thinkers from antiquity to the present, philosophical problems, and major philosophical movements

  • In Sociology, they examine social events and scientific data related to the society in which they live

  • In Geography, the curriculum covers natural systems, human systems, spatial synthesis, regions, countries, environment, and society throughout high school education

  • In History, the focus is on significant periods in human history from antiquity to the present, the development and transformation of Turkey’s cultural history, and important figures, events, and works in Turkish and world history

In English lessons, students are provided with a wide range of English skills that they will need in their future education and careers. By the end of Grade 12, students are expected to communicate fluently and effectively in various situations, and to produce different types of academic writing such as essays, memoirs, research assignments, and literary analysis reports. Finally, the program aims for students to apply their critical reading skills and to understand native English speakers in different contexts.

Course Objectives:

  • To read, comprehend, and respond to materials from different sources

  • To recognize and appreciate themes and styles that writers use effectively

  • To create and convey meaning in written language, selecting style appropriate to the audience and purpose

By the end of Grade 10, students will be assessed through both internal and external examinations.

Our Aim

Our goal is to nurture students’ creativity and originality, enabling them to produce works within the principles of aesthetics. We aim to raise individuals who possess universal values, can understand and analyze the development of art history from past to present, and remain sensitive to contemporary art events. Throughout this process, we provide opportunities for students to express themselves using a variety of materials and contribute to their personal growth through group work.

The Visual Arts curriculum for grades 9 and 10 is structured in accordance with the Ministry of National Education (MEB) program under three learning areas:

  • Forming in Visual Arts

  • Visual Arts Culture

  • Historical Environment and Museum Awareness

All art activities throughout the year serve as preparation for the Fen Biennial.

Core Areas in Art

The core curriculum in visual arts consists of three equally important and interconnected areas:

  • Communicating Visual Arts

  • Visual Arts Methods

  • Visual Arts in Context

Students are expected to explore the core curriculum through the following applications:

  • Theory application

  • Artistic techniques and methods

  • Work related to museums

One key expectation in art education is for students to prepare a visual arts portfolio appropriate to their level. Another is for students to choose at least three “art application methods and techniques” from at least two of the core categories listed above and carry out their work accordingly.

What We Do

Student Personal Exhibitions
We offer opportunities for students interested in visual arts and producing works in this field to hold their own exhibitions. To be eligible, students must actively participate in art classes, produce original and creative works in line with artistic criteria, and continue their studies both inside and outside school. This aims to inspire their peers and integrate art into their lives.

Cartoon Event
Our annual cartoon event holds an important place in the art department’s activities, combining students’ drawing skills with their thinking processes. Each year, the event focuses on a specific theme. Talks and workshops with guest cartoonists help draw attention to the art of caricature and provide students with a universal perspective.

Art Festival
Our annual Art Festival, now a tradition, is held across all grade levels. In a lively environment, students come together with artists from different fields of visual arts, expressing themselves through creative designs during the event.

Artists at School
Every 1–2 months, we host artists working in painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and other fields at our school for one day each week. This allows students to observe every stage of an artist’s creative process and learn through direct engagement. Conversations and workshops with these artists help make the acquired artistic knowledge permanent.

Our music curriculum for grades 9 and 10 is structured in accordance with the Ministry of National Education (MEB) standards. Students continue working with the instruments they have previously chosen, participating in various competitions and festivals. The Music Program consists of two levels—standard and advanced—and is implemented considering the school’s and community’s resources, students’ interests, and contemporary musical trends.

Our aim is to help students understand the nature and value of improvisation, engage in performance and composition activities, become aware of their own musical abilities, and use them with confidence.

Our Goals:

  • Raise individuals who value art and culture, are inquisitive, and can distinguish high-quality music

  • Develop skills in musical games, listening, creativity, rhythm, body language, and music notation

  • Help students understand the importance of culture, art, and music in human and social life

  • Foster interest in contemporary applications of music technology

  • Encourage participation in suitable music ensembles with their voices and instruments, both in and outside school

Music Course Objectives:
